Maryland Energy & Sustainability Co-op is a consumer-owned cooperative organized to create and maintain an economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable energy future that is locally rooted, and responsive to the needs of its members and their community. With a primary focus on energy, it harnesses the collective buying power of its Members to secure access to products & services that promote independence, are sustainable, and benefit its members and their local economy. Maryland Energy & Sustainability Co-op provides benefits to its Members through direct discounts and patronage dividends, and contributes to the economic health of its community by realizing the proven multiplier-effect that accrues from re-circulating money within local community.

Maryland Energy & Sustainability Co-op performs the following core functions:
1. Connecting consumers of sustainable energy with certified Suppliers,
2. Negotiating discounts on energy goods & services,
3. Investing Co-op capital in local sustainable energy projects that benefit its Members,
4. Educating its Members and the larger community about the advantages of a large group of individuals joining together in a cooperative to realize all of the benefits associated with group purchasing of sustainable energy,
5. Organizing on-line and in-person opportunities for Members to share experiences, collaborate, access resources, and build consensus for their own good and that of their community.
